The Friesian Cross Resource
About the Friesian Cross

The majestic Friesian has been used to cross with other breeds for centuries. often, the Friesian was used to improve other breeds. Unfortunately, some got carried away, and by the 1970's, the Friesian was in danger of extinction.
Today, however, the Friesian has experienced a tremendous resurgence, as has cross-breeding. The objective of crossing is not to eliminate the Friesian, but rather to improve it. By taking the Friesian qualities we love so and mixing them with qualities from other breeds, we create a very unique blend of athleticism, intelligence, and universal ability- a horse suitable for nearly everything (not to mention a purchase price that is far easier on one's checkbook).
Now we are showing, registering, documenting bloodlines, and even approving breeding stock, to promote this horse as an actual breed.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the Friesian Cross!

There are five places (to my knowledge) to register Friesian Crosses. The IFCA (International Friesian Cross Association), the FHS (Friesian Horse Society), the ASHR (American Sport Horse Registry), IRC (International Registry of Colored Horses), and the FBHR (Friesian Blood Horse Registry).
The FHS will only register foals by an approved Friesian stallion, and out of a mare that is registered with a fully recognized breed registry.
The FBHR requires DNA testing to register Friesian Crosses.
